prof. István MAJOROS
Central European Papers 2016, 4(1):8-19 | DOI: 10.25142/cep.2016.002
This study presents an interesting memoir about the Congress of Vienna. La Garde-Chambonas, a French aristocrat, went to Vienna in 1814 to participate in the life of the city during the Congress. This book is a very good source for getting acquainted with the life of the European aristocracy in the capital of the Habsburg Monarchy. The author of the memoir presents a lot of personalities, rulers as Alexander I of Russia, Isabey, the famous painter and others. But first of all he writes about Prince of Ligne, his patron in Vienna. Before the presentation of the life in Vienna, the study deals with some questions of organisation regarding the Congress.

prof. Bořivoj HNÍZDO
Central European Papers 2016, 4(1):20-31 | DOI: 10.25142/cep.2016.003
The article concentrates on state language policies and language behaviour of the Czech people in the 20th Century, particularly within the period of 1939-1989. In this period, we can speak about a restrictive, non-liberal state language policy, which was distinctively different in comparison to a previous historical period and a period which came later. The article tries to show that these policies are only partly successful, because equally important is a concrete language behaviour of the society. Reactions of Czech people to a restrictive language policy in 1939-1945 and 1948-1989 had some common aspects; mostly from political reasons a rejection...

The Western Balkans countries, yet differ in religious and ethnic background, their present-day constitutional setup - at least on paper - has plenty of similarities.
